FOSTER GRANDPARENTS

Where Love Grows...
The Foster Grandparent Program is a nationwide volunteer program for seniors. Participants offer one-to-one support to children and youth with special needs.

The program gives seniors sixty years and older the chance to share their talents, love, and encouragement to at-risk children in the community.

Foster Grandparents serve at volunteer stations in a ten county area of southwest Missouri.

A volunteer in the program does many of the things a grandparent would do with their own grandchildren. Playing, loving, laughing, and listening are experiences shared between foster grandparents and children. They also help teachers with tutoring, therapy, developing gross or fine motor skills and other classroom activities. Many times they serve as a role model for children or teens who don't have the opportunity to share time with their own grandparents.
